William R. Evans


William R. Evans, 64, of Stout, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at Adams County Hospital in West Union. He was a born June 17, 1933, at Blue Creek, the son of the late James Wilson and Rilla (Cooper) Evans. He was a former buyer for Koppers Co. at Sciotoville; owner of the former Evans Pennzoil Station; former sawmill owner for 25 years and a farmer for 30 years; a Jefferson Township clerk for two terms; Democrat Central Committee member for 15 years; a Navy and Air Force veteran; member of the Masonic Lodge No. 43 and the Young-Moore American Legion Post No. 100, both of West Union, and a member of the Churn Creek Christian Union Church in Stout. Surviving are his wife, Patty A. Evans of Stout; one son, William R. Evans Jr. of Stout; two foster children; three brothers, James Russell Evans of Stout, Eugene Evans of Bentonville, and Floyd Evans of Chicago, ILL.; four sisters, Gladys Deerman of Monahans, Texas, Claris Usry of Odessa, Texas, Ruth Mercer of Manchester, and Bertha Evans of Stout; and three granchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union with the Rev. Robert Fulton officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunshine Ridge Cemetery at Stout. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard. Visitation and a Masonic service was held Friday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
