Minnie Leola (Hayslip) Evans
Minnie Leola (Hayslip) Evans was born Nov. 9, 1902, the daughter of John W. Hayslip and Mary Ann (Rogers) Hayslip and passed away Dec. 26, 1996, at the Eagle Creek Nursing Center, West Union, Ohio, at the age of 94 years, one month and 17 days. In early life "Ola" received her education at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky, and Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio, and taught in many different schools in Adams County. She always started her classes with a prayer. On April 16, 1925, she was married to Louis (Buck) Evans, and they shared more than 70 years together, preceding her in death October 15, 1995. To this union three children were born, who survive Harold, who passed away at the age of 11 on Jan. 18, 1939, Jean McClanahan, Billie Evans, both of West Union; also a daughter-in-law, Nancy. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Danny Joe Russell of West Union, Dottie Anne McElroy of Georgetown, Ohio, and Susan Kay Haslam of Winchester, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter, and one step-great-great-granddaughter; one brother, John Hayslip, Jr., of Peebles, Ohio; five sisters, Ethel Jones of West Union, Inez Foster and Lena Foster of Portsmouth, Ohio, Virginia Shipp of Hillsdale, Michigan, Beatrice Moore of Peebles, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia Tyrrell and Mrs. Ethel Maude Lowry of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, Connor Hayslip, William Hayslip, Ira Hayslip and Ralph Hayslip, Lucy Weghorst and Agnes VanPelt. She leaves to mourn a host of nephews and nieces and friends of her community having been an honorary member of Stone Chapel Ladies Aide and Satterfield Chapel Ladies Aide. She attended church faithfully until her health was no longer good, having been a Christian for over 56 years.
