John R. Wamsley



John R. Wamsley, 75, of Vernal, Utah, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000. He was born July 6, 1925, in Peebles, the son of the late Harry and Eula Wamsley. He graduated from Peebles High School in 1943, where he was elected valedictorian of his class. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from Ohio University in 1951, and became a certified public accountant in 1955. He was a former employee of the United States Department of Energy in Piketon until 1965, when he accepted a promotional transfer to Las Vegas, Nev., where he was employed until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Ohio Society of CPAs, the AICPA, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jahan and Ryan Blackburn of Vernal; and two granddaughters, Rylic and Jahnsen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death in July 1975 by his wife, Alma Hall, whom he married in December 1947. Graveside services will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2 p.m., at the Locust Grove Cemetery in Peebles. At his request, the remains will be cremated. The Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
