Louisa Jane Smalley



Louise Jane Smalley, 89, of 415 N. Eighth St. Greenfield, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 1988, in the Greenfield Area Medical Center. Born Sept. 30, 1898 in Adams County, she was the daughter of Josephus C. and Elizabeth Mae Freeman Simpson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was past matron of the Eastern Star and a former Sunday School teacher. She was active in church and was retired from the U.S. Shoe Corporation after 20 years. Mrs. Smalley also worked at the American Pad and Textile Co. for 30 years. She is survived by a son, Robert M. Smalley of Dayton; a daughter, Helen Ruth Hibbs of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Robert P. Ault of Patton, Pa., Nancy B. McCoy of Columbus and Martin G. Roberts of Washington C.H.; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, Mrs. Esther Pummell of Waverly and William Shockey of Oregon and Floyd and Ora Shockey of Greenfield. She was preceded by her husband, Milton O. Smalley, on Sept. 29, 1976; a daughter, Esther Roberts Atkinson, on Nov. 9, 1983, and two brothers and six sisters. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Murray's Funeral Home with the Revs. Campbell and Walz officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
