Irene Cooper Sowards



Irene Cooper Sowards, 72, of Stout OH, died Saturday, Sept 20, 1997. She was born Feb. 16, 1925 in Portsmouth, to the late Noah and Edna Newman Cooper. She was a homemaker and a member of Mackletree Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Willie Holsinger and John Sowards. She is survived by three sons, Donald Hodge of Otway, Ronnie Hodge of Friendship, Walter Weaver of Portsmouth; six daughters, Norma Lee Marcum of Stout, Doris Winn of Lucasville, Rose Patty Lewis of Wellington, KA, Josephine Hodge of New Boston, Linda Pickleseimer of Stout, Kathy Leeth of Waverly; three brothers, Otto Cooper of Blue Creek, William Cooper of Manchester, and Clarence Cooper of Portsmouth; one sister, Loretta Moore of Stout, OH; two granddaughters she raised, Kimberley Armstrong of Stout, and Mildred Hodge Reno of Piketon; 23 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Pearl Hodge and Elizabeth Armstrong, one son Johnny Hodge, four sisters, Rosie Webb, Ocie Holsinger, Vada Holsinger, and Lillie McGraw, one brother, Theodore Cooper. Funeral services will be held today {Wednesday, Sept 24, 1997} at 11 a. m. at Pond Run Baptist Church with Clyde Dillow officiating. Burial in McKendree Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept 24, 1997 one hour before the services at the church. Arrangements under the direction of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home.
