Phillip Doddridge Martin



Phillip Doddridge Martin, the second child of six of Campbell C. Martin and Margaret Murray McCauley Martin, was born September 5th, 1854, near Hillsboro, Ohio. When a young man, he spent three years with is uncle, Julius Martin, in Kentucky, two years with Mrs. Craven Silcott near Seaman, Ohio, and from 1876 to 1880 with his brother, Robert, in Iowa and Missouri. On September 20, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Roberts, who died July 10, 1889. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Edna Martin Vane, Mrs. Martin Cline, and Earl F. Martin. On April 2, 1903, he was married to Miss Mary E. McClure of near Seaman, Ohio. To this union no children were born, but they reared to young manhood Henry Philip Armstrong, a nephew of Mrs. Martin, who has been a member of this family ever since. In 1875, he united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Pike Chapel, Ohio.
