Opal Swisshelm McCarty



Opal Swisshelm McCarty, 96, of Peebles, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at a Hillsboro nursing home. She was born Nov. 10, 1903, in May Hill, a daughter of the late Jim and Rosa Messinger Swisshelm. She was a member of the Peebles United Methodist Church, Peebles Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and had operated the Adams County Children's Home. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph McCarty on March 22, 1968, and three brothers. She is survived by two sons, Lowell McCarty of Hillsboro, and Ronald McCarty of Peebles; a daughter, Carolyn Goodman of West Union; two sisters, Wahnita Garnant of Illinois, and Bernice Scott of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles, with the Rev. Phil Upole officiating, and interment in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
